Mid-Week Musician in the Spotlight: Eric Hayward
By: Rebecca Kirkpatrick
It’s that time of week again-- time for our Mid-week Musician in the Spotlight. Each week we will highlight a musician with a few fun facts our patrons wouldn't have otherwise known. Since it was his birthday this week, we will highlight Associate Concertmaster, Eric Hayward. Happy Birthday, Eric! Let’s get to know this ASO violinist a little better:
When is your Birthday?
September 18, 1954
What is your hometown?
Corvallis, Oregon (Go Beavers!)
What instruments do you play?
Violin and Viola
What first sparked your interest in music?
My mother was a pianist and my grandfather was a fiddler. It was always fun watching them play together.
Do you have any hidden talents?
I like to play horseshoes. I built my own horseshoe court in my yard.
Do you have any pets?
I have a twelve-year-old Chow-mix dog. We love to go walking. We’ve hiked several hundred miles together over the last few years and know the trails in Burns Park very well.
How long have you played with the ASO?
I joined the ASO in the fall of 1978 I am a founding member of the Quapaw Quartet, which began in 1980.
You can hear Eric's talented playing next weekend (September 30th and October 1st) at our 2017-2018 Season's opening night concert, "Go Brahms." Tickets are still on sale-- don't miss out!
Check back next week for another posting!
